| After a large limb fell from a giant valley oak at Durham High School, the school district trustees decided that student safety had to trump "historical importance," and they voted to remove the tree. It was a hard decision, as the 90-foot tree was 250 years old and nearly 5 feet in diameter, with an 80-foot canopy that was a favorite student gathering spot. Our expert tree crew safely removed the tree and cleared the area just before the start of school in August 2010.
