Heritage Tree Program, Valley Oak at Eaton Road

This is the City of Chico's largest Heritage Tree, a 78" Valley Oak located near Eaton Rd and Cohasset.  This tree grows on the bank of Sycamore Creek.  Volunteers have cared for the tree over the years by installing large logs around the outside of the drip line to keep vehicles out from under the canopy, pruning and cabling the tree, and removing the excess soil over the root collar that was probably raised during the building of the levy and Eaton Road.  Called the Eaton Oak, it is an incredible specimen that is a joy to stand under.  One limb has grown to the ground and is helping to support the massive structure.

North Valley Tree Service has volunteered to maintain this very large, old Valley Oak enrolled in the City of Chico's Heritage Tree Program.  This regal tree is over 250 years old and has a diameter of 78".  We are very proud to be his caretaker.
