Patrick Ranch Museum

One of the big redwood trees at Patrick Ranch Museum in Durham had developed several large vertical cracks and had already been bolted in five locations. In May 2010, we did a safety inspection and determined that, unfortunately, the tree had deteriorated too far and had to come down.


The tallest redwood in the center had to be removed.	Getting ready.

The tree's cracks are easy to see at right and left..	Proper setup to assure safe removal.

Tree was wrapped with several chains to prevent trunk collapse.	Almost ready to come down.

A massive stump.	The inside of the big tree was hollow up to 40 feet.
